Coachella Valley art enthusiasts are invited to come enjoy a historical art exhibition by the Artists Council.
For the first time, the AC is hosting a juried show of works from public and private schools across the area. The show will feature projects from a variety of media, including drawing and painting, photography and digital images, videography, mixed media and ceramics.
The theme of the show, called the Young Artists Exhibit, is “Fantasy/Reality.”
Katherine Hough, an art curator, and Emily Culhan, an art educator, served as jurors of the submissions. The two experts juried the young artists’ work based on “the interpretation and presentation of the theme, originality, craftsmanship and a meaningful communication of ideas.”
“[Hough and Culhan] were impressed by the diversity of the work as well as the thoughtfulness of the students,” according to the AC.
The Young Artists Exhibition will be on display from April 9 through May 15. The public can enjoy the exhibition with no admission fee Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This first-of-its-kind show is supported by Jim and Carol Egan, the City of Palm Desert, LULU Catering, MUR Custom Framing, Darlenna Burleson and Cynthia Buzzard.
The AC has several other exciting spring events in the works. On April 24 at the Galen, the center will host a collaboration of community art organizations and the City of Palm Desert from 1-4 p.m.; this free event, Community Sunday in the Garden, will offer hands-on art activities and performances fit for the whole family.
The Coachella Watercolor Society Exhibition will make its return to the Galen from April 1-3.
A members’ Homage to Collage Exhibition and Sale will be presented from May through June at the Artists Center, as well as a chock-full lineup of art workshops, book discussion groups, critiques and more.
