Activity and fitness-seekers in the valley need not have club in-hand to get down with some exercise once the temps begin to rise.
Abetted by the Coachella Valley Firebirds’ surge of desert success on-ice at Acrisure Arena, the adjacent, all-age access Berger Foundation Iceplex has enjoyed its own all-seasons swell of skating opportunity.
“The Berger Foundation Iceplex enjoyed a remarkable first summer last season,” says Leslie Deason, vice president and GM of the Iceplex. “While ice rinks nationwide typically experience a decrease in patronage during the warm months due to leisure travel and outdoor pursuits, our facility has defied this trend in our desert oasis.”
A full array of year-round programming has the Iceplex readying for another cool summer season.
“Our public skate sessions have been extremely well-attended, providing a welcome respite from the heat,” Deason details. “Our camps and clinics have been a popular attraction, offering young skaters an opportunity to hone their skills, and our Sk8 Academy and Learn to Play has also been in high demand, with aspiring figure skaters and hockey players seeking to improve their technique and coordination. Moreover, our hockey programs have been a resounding success, with youth and adult leagues offering recreational and competitive opportunities for hockey enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.”
The Iceplex’s second summer is reaching even higher on the podium.
“This summer, we’ll have a special skate-a-thon, the ‘Frozen 5K,’ for all those looking to get some great exercise while staying cool on the ice, and there will be both an individual and team baton events,” adds Deason. “There will also be high-performance travel hockey camps, an Adult Skating camp coached by elite coaches and a special 'Go for the Gold' themed event in honor of this summer’s Olympics.”
